On a wet Wellington Friday evening, we were fortunate to host a live rehearsal of the forthcoming production of A Doll’s House, adapted from Ibsen’s original by Emily Perkins. Award-winning director Katherine McRae presented the players, Sophie Hambleton (Nora Helmer) and Arthur Meek (Theo Helmer), for a performance that gave the audience a taste of the intricate passions of marriage in a present-day New Zealand setting. There followed a Q&A between the audience and the performers in which they elaborated upon adapting a work written in 1879 for the modern stage.
Copies of A Doll’s House and Other Plays by Henrik Ibsen can be purchased from Unity’s online bookshop here.
A Doll’s House will be performed at the Circa Theatre 5 August – 2 September.
