AFTERGLOW: A Strange Beautiful Excitement by Redmer Yska, Otago University Press

Unity Books was thronging once again on Thursday 3rd August as Wellington writer and historian Redmer Yska launched his latest work A Strange Beautiful Excitement: Katherine Mansfield’s Wellington.

The book was introduced by Emily Perkins, writer and senior lecturer at the International Institute of Modern Letters; Rachel Scott, publisher at Otago University Press and Gabor Toth, Local and New Zealand History Specialist at Wellington City Library. A lively reading by Gabor’s daughter Klara put voice to the youthful writings of Mansfield, after which eager punters were able to buy the book and have it signed by Redmer.

A Strange Beautiful Excitement is an intermingling of fact, fiction and biography that fleshes out the colonial cityscape that influenced Mansfield during her youthful years. It delves into previously untold aspects of her childhood, ancestry and social surroundings.
