Rhonda Pritchard formally launched After Alexander by Jan Pryor to a trumpet fanfare on Thursday the 22nd of February, as she knows her friend is too modest to ever ‘blow her own horn.’ Pryor is an internationally esteemed psychologist and counsellor for children in changing families, with a number of academic texts behind her—but After Alexander is her first creative non-fiction work.
The book intertwines personal experience with philosophy, built upon solid foundations of focused, up-to-date research. Pryor writes about the experience of losing her four-month-old child with all of the emotional honesty and insight that the 34 years since have given her. Both Pryor and Pritchard read passages from the memoir, to applause, laughter, and heartfelt empathy from the audience at Unity Books Wellington. The readings proved both the strength of the writing, and the immense sense of hope and compassion that can be found in the book.
After Pritchard (with the help of trumpeter James Guilford Smith) officially launched After Alexander, Pryor signed copies for friends, family and fans.
After Alexander by Jan Pryor, published by Heddon Publishing, is available in store and at Unity Books Online now.
