AFTERGLOW: Balancing Acts by Gerald McGhie

On Wednesday the 24th of May, Unity played host to the launch of former New Zealand diplomat Gerald McGhie’s memoir Balancing Acts, published by Dunmore Press. With a career in the foreign service spanning nearly 40 years, McGhie’s book offers insights and reflections on his two postings in Moscow, during and following the Cold War, and on his time in Samoa and Papua New Guinea.

Hon. Russell Marshall took to the microphone first to launch the book, followed by former Australian High Commissioner Michael Potts. Gerald McGhie then spoke, sharing some insights on his time as a diplomat in the tense and fascinating period of the fall of the Soviet Union.

Following speeches, an enthusiastic crowd lined up to have their copies of Balancing Acts signed by McGhie.
