Australian social researcher and novelist Hugh Mackay made time this Wednesday to give a stimulating and enjoyable lunchtime talk at the shop. Hugh discussed his most recent book, Beyond Belief, which focuses on faith in both the religious and non-religious sense. While the numbers of people attending church across western liberal democracies drops, the number of children enrolled into religious schools increases. New Zealand and Australia are not church-going nations but patterns like these do highlight an importance that religion continues to hold in a nation’s history and identity. A good talk and good answers to detailed questions from the audience. Thank you to Macmillan publishers for helping organise this event.
