AFTERGLOW: Broken Decade: Prosperity, Depression & Recovery in NZ, 1928-39 by Malcolm McKinnon

Unity Books was full like an unopened sugarbag on Wednesday evening to celebrate the launch of Malcolm McKinnon’s Broken Decade.  Rachel Scott of Otago University Press introduced the book as a superb and definitive history of NZ’s depression years. Lydia Wevers launched Broken Decade, pointing out the shop windows to identify local landmarks. The Majestic Cabaret, just across the road, opened one year before the Depression hit. After Lydia, Malcolm himself spoke, giving the audience an enlightening and funny point of view on what it is to be an author who has just had a book published. A lot of laughs and smiles and a very good evening.
