AFTERGLOW: Celebrate Children’s Books in Wellington

Lunchtime of Wednesday 8th August saw Unity Books Wellington filled with readers, publishers and authors, all excited to hear about and share their favorite reading for children ahead of the NZ Book Awards for Children and Young Adults. Unity hosted publishers Julia Marshall (Gecko Press), Adrienne Jansen (Escalator Press) and Tammy Ruffell (HarperCollins Publishers), writer Gareth Ward and bookseller Louise Ward from Wardini Books. Panelists took turns talking about their picks of three favorite award nominees.

Julia champions Gareth’s novel The Traitor & The Thief.

Adrienne reads from How to Bee by Bren MacDibble.

Our esteemed panel L-R: Julia Marshall, Louise Ward, Adrienne Jansen, Gareth Ward and Tammy Ruffell.

Gareth Ward. Effusive.

Tammy focused on non-fiction publishing for kids, including NZ’s Great White Sharks by Alison Ballance.

Julia shared Fleur Beale’s Lyla from the ‘Through My Eyes’ series.

Can you spot the visiting authors in the audience?

Adrienne shared the beautifully illustrated, Sky High: Jean Batten by David Hill and Phoebe Morris.

Gareth Ward.

Tammy with The New Zealand Wars by Philippa Werry.

Gareth signs the award-nominated The Traitor And The Thief.
