AFTERGLOW: City of Circles by Jess Richards, Hachette

Tuesday lunch time at Unity Books saw the launch of Wellington adoptee Jess Richards’ latest novel, City of Circles. Jess, who is originally from Wales and grew up in Scotland before settling in Wellingon, gave a captivating reading from the new book, introducing readers to main character Danu, her Hunchback tightrope partner, and the magical city of Matryoshka where the mysteries at the heart of their story promise to unfold.

As well as answering questions about the new book and her writing process, Jess took time to share some of her favorite reading recommendations, including Colm Toibin’s ‘The Testament of Mary‘ and Nabokov’s ‘Lolita’.

Jess Richards draws her audience in with an enticing reading from the first two chapters of City of Circles.

Readers were keen to hear of Richards’ experiences of locations around the globe which have informed her writing.

Fans were glad to be able to pick up Jess’ other novels, ‘Cooking With Bones’ and ‘Snake Ropes’.

Copies of City of Circles by Jess Richards can be purchased from Unity’s online bookshop here.
