A discussion with judges and authors of the books in the Senior Fiction category of the 2001 New Zealand Post Book Awards. Is it true that “the new youth literature is dark, deviant and very frightening”? The answer seems to be, readers can cope. If teenagers aren’t reading anything – disturbing or not – that’s when we need to worry.
