In preparation for Writers & Readers Week 2000, Unity set up a network of independent bookshops to ensure books for the festival would be available nationwide – a condition of the contract. This meant customers of bookshops in smaller centres were able to access books which might have otherwise been problematic for those shops to supply and Unity could rely on wider publicity for Writers and Readers week.

The network of independent bookshops set up to collaborate on making books from the authors at Writers and Readers Week 2000 available nationally.
