AFTERGLOW: A Way with Words by Chris Maclean

A crowd of friends, family and publishing doyens gathered in Unity Books on the evening of Tuesday 27th March to help launch Chris Maclean’s latest book A Way with Words, a memoir of writing and publishing in New Zealand, published by Potton & Burton in conjunction with The Whitcombe Press, Chris’ own imprint. Chris has written and published a number of non-fiction books since the 1980s, including Tramping: A New Zealand History (with Shaun Barnett), Stag Spooner: Wild Man From the Bush, and Kapiti, which won the Montana Book Award for History in 2000.

Fellow author, tramper and friend Shaun Barnett launched the book with a speech about his history working with Chris and the journey of the book.

As a man with many stories about the book industry in New Zealand, Chris also had many people to thank for their input to A Way with Words – “No book is an island,” he observed. We couldn’t agree more, and it was great to see the support from Chris’s book trade associates from over the decades.
