AFTERGLOW: Bill Lake & The Right Mistake perform modern folk songs from their new album “As Is Where Is”

On the evening of Friday 20th October, Unity Books played host to Bill Lake and the Right Mistake as they performed songs from their new album, As Is Where Is.

Bill Lake led on vocals and guitar, and was supported by Andrew Clouston on saxophone; Andrew Delahunty on mandolin, guitar and harmonica; and Nick Bollinger on acoustic bass.

Arthur Baysting, long-time collaborator and co-writer of many of the album’s songs, describes the writing process:

“We make a cup of tea. We sit in the kitchen or out under a tree in the garden and Bill picks up his guitar. I can’t really sing or play but Bill is a bottomless well of beautiful music. We just try different ideas and in an hour or so we’ve found a song.”

According to Baysting, some of the songs are inspired by Bill’s philosophy while others are influenced by his simple life and extensive reading.

The band played to an enthusiastic crowd of supporters, and passers-by were lured in by the at-times folksy and soulful country-blues.

The band played new tracks from the album, including ‘Juliet and Romeo’ and ‘Grandma’s Music’
