Both Wellington and Auckland won, were runners-up or were nominated for many categories in the 1997 D W Thorpe Book Industry Awards (nominated by book publishers). In 1997, Unity Auckland won the overall Bookseller of the Year award, while Unity Wellington and Dymocks Atrium on Elliott were runners-up.
