Wellingtonians flocked to Unity Books on Thursday evening, 17 November, for a rightful celebration of our brilliant little capital city. Therese O’Connell spoke of how even as an 11 year old she was completely ensnared by Wellington’s vibrancy and had instantaneously made plans for her return. The guys that make up FitzBeck Publishing, Mike Fitzsimons and Nigel Beckford, detailed the great sense of pride they felt about their ‘seismically thrilling’ hometown, stating ‘we must be doing something right!’. Mike and Nigel paid tribute to the Czech Republic illustrator Karolína Slováková and outlined how the meticulous drawings featured in the book offer a glimpse of a visitor’s perspective of the city. It’s a truly beautiful homage to the wonderful place we call home.
