AFTERGLOW: The Shops by Steve Braunias and Peter Black

Monday 14th November 2016. The Shops, by Steve Braunias and Peter Black. If a flood couldn’t keep us down, an earthquake won’t either, and anyway, we built these shelves to withstand a proper shake. Roads were closed, buses cancelled, and still a crowd of thirty-five people made it to our special little launch in the city. Steve talked about the start of the idea, contacting Peter, whom he had never met at that stage, and the journey to getting The Shops ($40 hb) to print. The Shops opens with Steve’s 5,000 odd word essay. Peter Black’s photographs follow separately, offered without comment, allowing the reader the space to make what they will. Much thanks to Kapiti for the cheese, Erica Crawford and Loveblock Wines for the wine, and Pilsner Urquell for the beer.
