On the evening of the 5th of October 2017, Unity Books hosted the launch of Dave Greenberg’s Emergency Response, published by Penguin Random House New Zealand.
As part of Life Flight, the Westpac Rescue Helicopter service in Wellington, Dave has been saving people’s lives for 25 years. What began as an opportunity for an eager 13-year-old to use his newly learnt CPR training grew into a varied career of life-saving. From teenage years spent as an emergency medical technician in the US, to dangling from a helicopter, plucking people from ship decks in NZ.
His autobiographical writing gives readers a first-person account of some of his more dramatic rescues and also reflects on the realities of the job, writing in an early passage, ‘… if I am happy at work it is because someone else is having one of the worst days of their life’.
Dave spoke about the process of writing the book as well as thanking those he has worked with over the course of his career, many of whom were in attendance. There were also a number of children in the audience, enjoying the lively atmosphere and no doubt being inspired by Dave’s stories.
Emergency Response can be purchased in-store at Unity Books and at Unity Books Online.
